Generally, philosophy books are very wordy and over the top obnoxious in the way things are worded. While this book contains some of that for samples from various philosophers - the actual explanations and summaries are not the typical verbose philosophical rants.
As a result, I would say that this is a pretty good book for a class. Though I typically don't enjoy philosophy.
