Review
After 22 years of marriage, Lady In Waiting has given me a sense of security in Christ that I never experienced before. This book helped me realize that my earthly father, my husband, or anyone else could not provide security--only God can. What a freeing principle--not only for me, but also for my husband! Now my marriage is better than ever because I no longer have unrealistic expectations of him! --
Jimmie Davis, Coordinator of Deaf Ministry, First Baptist Church in Atlanta I highly recommend Lady In Waiting to any woman with a passion for finding God's perspective on her life and future. I recall buying "Lady-in-Waiting" over 20 years ago, and how it healed me of hating myself for waiting on the Lord as a virgin woman - which, at almost 49 years old, I still am. Whenever I let another woman borrow it, I never got it back! Whenever I went to buy it again at a Christian bookstore, it was on backorder. Now I get to purchase a used copy and re-read it after so many years.
Frankly, I don't understand the problem negative reviewers have with "Lady-in-Waiting." For me this was the first book that included examples of women who, like me, have to rely on Jesus alone. Yes, there are numerous examples of women who, as the authors write, went to college and returned without their M.R.S. degree, only to discover God's best for them was right in their own backyard, in the house next door! In either example, this is how the Lord works. I don't understand who I must remain lonely and unmarried, anymore than why I see so many attractive, intelligent, sweet women once married, now single divorcees and mothers; or why happily married, Godly women cannot bear children; or why happily married women are suddenly widowed. Until now, I used to covet married women to the point of bitterness. But even amidst bitterness and despair, upon reflecting on what Jones and Kendall wrote, I realized that I'm not to sit around and pine, but instead, like Tabitha in the Book of Acts, serve others in Christ's Name. Until the Lord sends me a man for whom I can bake banana cake and chocolate chip cookies, I bake them for my church and teaching colleagues. But even if I NEVER marry - like the Christian school principal in "Lady-in-Waiting" - I have over 300 "children" I teach every day, and families I serve at my home church...
